Incentives Assistance

State Incentives

The Kansas Department of Commerce administers numerous incentives programs designed to encourage investment and job creation in the state. The programs range from tax credits to on-site workforce training grants. Many of the programs can be combined together to provide financial benefits to companies of all sizes. Creation of as little as two jobs can initiate Kansas incentive programs.

Local Incentives

The City of Overland Park can authorize a real property tax abatement on significant new investments made within the city. The abatement can be authorized for up to ten years under state law.  For more information about Overland Park's incentive programs contact staff@opedc.org.

A Natural Incentive

In addition to a real property tax abatement, Overland Park’s existing property tax levy provides a natural incentive for commercial development. Due to the significant amount of commercial tax base and careful fiscal management, the city of Overland Park’s mill levy is 18% lower than any major community in the region. This allows Overland Park’s incentive program to be additionally leveraged and provide continual tax savings.

Below is a comparison of the area’s largest 10 communities’ total effective commercial tax rate, which takes into account differing assessment ratios, levies, and jurisdictions.
