J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services Announces
Headquarters Move to Overland Park

Overland Park, Ks., December 15, 2009 – City of Overland Park officials received an early Christmas gift today with the announcement by J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services that it has signed a ten-year lease to occupy new headquarters on the Sprint Campus. The 175,000-square-foot building at 6580 Sprint Parkway will house 800 Kansas City-based jobs and the move is scheduled for early 2011.

“This is truly outstanding news for Overland Park,” said Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach. “J.P. Morgan is bringing to Overland Park 800 jobs that will further strengthen our community as a center of commerce and an attractive location for corporations. Once we learned that J.P. Morgan would be relocating, a valuable and effective team of business and government leaders worked to help meet the strategic and corporate needs of J.P. Morgan. I want to express my gratitude to Governor Mark Parkinson, Kansas Secretary of Commerce Bill Thornton, members of the Overland Park Economic Development Council and many others who were integral in this effort. As Mayor, I want to welcome J.P. Morgan to Overland Park.”

“This project is a great example of the public and private sector teaming together to help maintain Overland Park’s reputation as the Midwest’s leading suburban business community,” said Lavern Squier, Senior Vice President of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council. “The Sprint property represents a stellar real estate option for first class business operations as exemplified by J.P. Morgan’s decision.”

“We believe that the Overland Park site will best meet the needs of our clients and employees, while also serving the interests of shareholders,” said Pam Popp, CEO, J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services. “We remain committed to the entire Kansas City metropolitan community and we look forward to continuing on with our mission of delivering the best retirement services and investment solutions to every client and each individual we serve.”

“We are excited that J.P. Morgan has chosen to bring its operations to Kansas,” said Kansas Secretary of Commerce Bill Thornton. “With our nation facing such difficult economic challenges, it speaks volumes about Kansas when a company like J.P. Morgan chooses to come here. We appreciate the company’s commitment to Kansas and look forward to a long and productive relationship.”

State officials said the company’s decision underscores the state’s longtime commitment to public education. “Companies such as J.P. Morgan commit to Kansas because our workforce is trained, able and incredibly talented,” said Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson. “But a skilled workforce doesn’t happen overnight; it takes a long-term commitment to our public schools and post-secondary institutions. As we navigate through our current budget challenges, we must keep this in mind. The decisions we make today directly impact the job opportunities we’ll see in the tomorrows ahead.”

J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services has been in the Kansas City area since 1989. The company’s current lease of the 9300 Ward Parkway building expires June 30, 2011.
