The telecommunciations industry has had a strong history in Overland Park, led by the corporate headquarters location of Sprint Corp. in 1999 from nearby Westwood, Kansas. Sprint's presence has brought numerous telecommunciations and information technology companies to the community as a result. The most notable company with a connection to Sprint is Embarq, the former local communications company of Sprint that spun-off in 2006.
